I feel like this is why my otherwise highly intelligent friends are perpetually stuck with superficial “bible study”. They are afraid to dig deeper, not knowing what mess they’d find beneath the neat facade of overly simplistic “Christian” doctrines they have grown accustomed to.

Took me too long to realise that most people have a ton of unresolved psychological issues that prevent them from seeing things with open eyes.
I suppose superficial bible study is not too bad, considering people also enjoy chasing a ball up and down the field. (Both are widely considered as sacred activities.)
