Belief in the existence of a supreme being, specifically of a creator who does not intervene in the universe.
Today’s sermon spoke negatively of deism. But actually it is largely correct to say that God generally does not intervene. Because God’s plan has always been for humans to take responsibility for His creation (“inherit the Earth”).
If you shield a child from negative consequences, he will never learn to take responsibility for anything. And if you intervene selectively, the child will just get confused as to which actions are supposed to be associated with what kinds of outcome.
Hence, it makes little sense for God to continually intervene. Humans are given a measure of influence ( = power + knowledge), while being expected to grow their influence (cf. parable of the talents).
Humans are supposed to learn to take responsibility for their collective impotence / ignorance / inaction ( = sin), in the hope that, having learned from their collective experience, humanity will one day fulfil its destiny of becoming the perfect image of God ( = governing the world, as God’s children).

Even what is described as the greatest intervention God has done throughout history, i.e. what Jesus Christ has done on Earth, is accomplished by a human: Jesus.
Everything mentioned above would not be so hard to grasp, if Christians were properly taught what Heaven is supposed to be about. With a proper view of the end goal, the inevitable journey (leading to the goal) would make so much more sense:
Humanity’s destiny, is not about ending up in some amusement park run by God and his angels. It is about humanity being perfected so that they are fully competent of running the whole show (painlessly and without sin). After all, God created the world for humanity to inherit. You gotta be responsible for your own inheritance.
